What is the downside of a refurbished phone?

Three honest downsides. There is usually no original box or earphones, because they rarely survive a first life — which is also why you are not paying for them. You choose from stock, so one specific combination of model, colour and storage is not always available. And the battery is not new unless you have it replaced; at least 85% of original capacity is our floor. What is not a downside: the warranty. Ours is two years.

Which refurbished seller is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

Don't look only at the number of warranty years, but at who has to honour it. Four checks: does the seller provide a concrete test report or just the word 'tested'; do they repair in-house or forward everything to a third party; is the battery condition stated up front; and is there a physical address you can visit. We have a store and workshop in Nijverdal, test every device on 50 points and give a 2-year warranty with 30-day returns.

What is the difference between Swappie and refurbished?

Accepted Answer

It is not an either-or question. 'Refurbished' is the product type — a professionally inspected used device — and Swappie is one of the sellers offering them, just like The Phone Shopper, Back Market or Forza. The real question is which seller offers the better terms.

What is the difference between refurbished and second-hand?

Accepted Answer

A second-hand phone is bought as-is, usually from a private seller, without inspection, warranty or return rights. A refurbished phone has first been inspected and repaired where needed by a company, and comes with a warranty. With us that means a 50-point check, a fully wiped device, at least 85% battery capacity and a 2-year warranty.
