Buy a refurbished iPhone
Every refurbished iPhone we sell, from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Professionally refurbished, with a 2-year warranty, 30-day returns and free shipping from €150.
A refurbished iPhone is a professionally reconditioned device: tested, repaired where needed and cleaned, with a battery at 85% or more of its original capacity. You pay far less than for a new one and get a 2-year warranty with us — twice as long as most other sellers offer.

Buying a refurbished iPhone: smart move or not?
Yes — as long as you check three things: battery condition, warranty length, and whether the seller tests devices in-house. A refurbished iPhone typically costs 30-40% less than new, and with a 2-year warranty you carry less risk than buying second-hand from a private seller with no warranty or return rights.
Every device leaving our Nijverdal store is tested in our own workshop: screen, battery, cameras, microphones, speakers, Face ID and all buttons. Devices that fail don't get sold. Worried about the battery? On iPhones you can have a new battery fitted at checkout: high-capacity compatible (€35) or an original Apple Service Pack (€55).
When you should NOT buy refurbished
- You want the newest model on day one. Refurbished stock only appears months after a release.
- The price gap with new is small. If a model is only a few tens of euros below the new price, buying new is the smarter choice — even if that costs us a sale.
- You shop on the lowest price alone without checking the warranty. A device without a clear warranty is just a second-hand phone with an expensive label.
Which refurbished iPhone suits you?
If you mainly want a reliable phone for everyday use, the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 is a great fit: plenty of speed, years of updates and the sharpest price. Want a better screen and better cameras? Look at the iPhone 15. For the very best there are the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro.
Best refurbished iPhone under €300
At around €250 to €300 the iPhone 13 is the best buy: a modern OLED screen, the fast A15 chip and years of updates ahead. Slightly cheaper is the iPhone 12, which barely trails it in daily use. Prefer something small? Pick the iPhone 12 Mini. Smallest budget? The iPhone SE (2020) is our most affordable model, with Touch ID and a compact size.
How long does a refurbished iPhone keep getting iOS updates?
Apple typically supports iPhones with iOS updates for six to seven years from the year of release — often followed by security updates after that. For a refurbished phone that means: the newer the model, the longer it lasts. An iPhone 13 (2021) will keep going for years, while an iPhone 15 or newer keeps you on new features the longest. If you mainly call, chat and bank, an older model that only receives security updates is still perfectly fine.
Apple typically supports iPhones with iOS updates for 6 to 7 years from the release year. The years below are an estimate based on that update history — Apple never announces end dates in advance:
| Model | Released | iOS updates expected until approx. |
| iPhone 11 | 2019 | 2026 |
| iPhone 12 | 2020 | 2027 |
| iPhone 13 | 2021 | 2028 |
| iPhone 14 | 2022 | 2029 |
| iPhone 15 | 2023 | 2030 |
| iPhone 16 | 2024 | 2031 |
| iPhone 17 | 2025 | 2032 |

What to check before choosing a refurbished seller

| Battery option | The battery is THE wear item of any used iPhone | Your choice: new compatible battery (€35) or original Apple Service Pack (€55) |
| Delivery | Being without a phone always takes too long | Shipped from the Netherlands, delivery in 2-5 working days |

Refurbished, second-hand or new?
Second-hand means buying as-is: no checks and usually no warranty. Refurbished means the device was inspected and repaired where needed before it was sold. Compared with new you quickly save a few hundred euros for the same phone — and one less device has to be manufactured.
Second-hand iPhone or refurbished: what's the difference?
A second-hand iPhone is bought as-is — usually from a private seller, without inspection, warranty or return rights. A refurbished iPhone has first been inspected by a company, repaired where needed and wiped, and comes with a warranty. At The Phone Shopper that means a 50-point check in our own workshop, a battery at 85% capacity or better, a 2-year warranty and 30-day returns.
| Private second-hand | Refurbished with us | New |
| Price | Lowest | Roughly a third to half below new | Highest |
| Tested | No | Yes, 50 points | Factory new |
| Warranty | None | 2 years | Manufacturer warranty |
| Return window | None | 30 days | 14 days by law |
| Battery condition known | Rarely | Yes, 85% minimum | 100% |
| Risk of a locked device | Yours | Ours — we check this | None |
What should you check on a second-hand iPhone?
Five checks decide whether a second-hand iPhone is a bargain or a problem: the iCloud lock, the IMEI number, battery condition, previous repairs and the warranty. Buying privately, you have to run all five yourself. Buying refurbished from us, they are already ticked off.
- Is the iCloud lock removed? If "Find My" is still tied to the previous owner's account, you cannot activate the device.
- Does the IMEI match? Ask for it (Settings, or dial *#06#) and compare it with the device itself.
- What is the battery condition? Settings → Battery → Battery Health shows maximum capacity. Below 85% you notice it daily; 85% is our floor.
- Were there previous repairs? A screen or battery of unknown origin can cause faults; look for unknown-part warnings in settings.
- Do you get a written warranty? Without one you carry every risk. With us: 2 years and 30-day returns.
Which iPhone should you no longer buy second-hand?
Models from before 2019 — the iPhone 8, X and older — no longer receive new iOS versions. They still handle calls and messaging fine, but some apps, banking apps in particular, now demand more. For a device that lasts years, start at the iPhone 11 or newer; the sharpest value right now is the iPhone 12 and 13.
Which iPhone is better: the 13, 14 or 15?
For most people the iPhone 13 is the smartest refurbished buy, the 14 a small step up, and the 15 genuinely different thanks to USB-C. The 13 and 14 feel very similar day to day; the difference is mainly camera and battery life.
| Model | Connector | Best for |
| iPhone 13 | Lightning | Best value; plenty for everyday use and years of updates left. |
| iPhone 14 | Lightning | Those willing to pay a little more for camera and battery life. |
| iPhone 15 | USB-C | Those who want one cable for phone, laptop and tablet. |
Frequently asked questions about buying a refurbished iPhone
What is the difference between a refurbished iPhone and a second-hand one?
A second-hand phone you buy as it is. A refurbished iPhone is checked first: we test every device on 50 points, replace whatever is not right, clean it and wipe all data from the previous owner. After that you get a two-year warranty. With a private seller you have no such certainty.
How good is the battery in a refurbished iPhone?
Every refurbished iPhone we sell has a battery at 85% or more of its original capacity. If a device falls below that, we fit a new battery first. The battery condition is shown on the product page, so you know beforehand what you are getting.
Which condition should I choose?
We sell four conditions: New, As good as new, Lightly used and Used. The difference is only in the outside — the technology and the warranty are the same for all four. If you want a device that looks untouched, pick As good as new. If you use a case anyway, Lightly used or Used gets you the same phone for less.
How much warranty do I get on a refurbished iPhone?
Two years, on every device. If something breaks in those two years through no fault of your own, we repair or replace it free of charge. You also have 30 days to change your mind: if the phone is not what you hoped, send it back and you get your money back.
What is in the box?
The device and a matching charging cable. The original box and earphones are not included — they are rarely still around with a refurbished iPhone, so you do not pay for them either. A charger or a case can be ordered separately.
How much cheaper is a refurbished iPhone?
That depends on the model and the condition, but expect roughly a third to half less than new. A model that is a few years old saves you the most: the technology is still more than enough for daily use and Apple keeps supplying updates for years.
Is buying a second-hand iPhone safe?
It depends who you buy from. From a private seller you carry the risk of a locked device, a worn battery or a hidden defect, with no warranty and no return rights. Buying a refurbished iPhone from a company means those checks are already done: we test every device on 50 points, verify it is free of account locks, and give a 2-year warranty with 30-day returns.
