Buying the Samsung Galaxy A16: the entry-level screen grows up
With the Galaxy A16 you move from LCD to Super AMOLED, and that is the difference you see straight away. Black is properly black, colours are saturated and the resolution goes up to Full HD+ (1080 × 2340). For anyone after an affordable phone who would rather not look at a grainy screen every day, this is the model where things start to get interesting. Ours is brand new and sealed, with a 2-year warranty.
Screen and speed
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen refreshes 90 times a second. Combined with the higher resolution, the A16 feels a good deal more modern than the A06 and A07. The MediaTek Helio G99 handles everything you do in a day: social media, streaming, navigation, video calls. For light games that is plenty; with heavier 3D titles you have to turn the settings down.
Cameras
The A16 has three cameras on the back: a 50 megapixel main camera, a 5 megapixel ultra-wide for when you want more in the frame, and a 2 megapixel macro camera for close-ups. On the front sits a 13 megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. One thing to know: optical image stabilisation is not included. In daylight that hardly matters, at dusk it does — for that you want the Galaxy A17 or the Galaxy A26 5G.
Battery, updates and what you give up
The 5,000 mAh battery charges at 25 watts over USB-C and lasts a day with normal use. The housing is IP54 certified: splashes and dust are no problem, submerging is. Samsung promises six Android version upgrades and six years of security updates, which means you can use this phone safely well into the 2030s. This is, though, the model where Samsung dropped the headphone socket — the A15 still had one. A memory card does fit, but it shares the slot with the second SIM. NFC for contactless payment is present.
Who is the A16 for?
The A16 is the choice for anyone who wants a big, good-looking screen without getting anywhere near three hundred euros. If you want sharper photos in the dark and quicker hardware, the A17 is the next step; if you need 5G, look at the Galaxy A17 5G.

Does the Samsung Galaxy A16 have a headphone socket?
No. With the A16 Samsung dropped the 3.5 mm socket; the Galaxy A15 still had one. So you listen over Bluetooth or through USB-C headphones. If you really do want a classic headphone socket on a new phone, the Galaxy A06 and A07 are the models that still have one.
Is the Galaxy A16 any good for gaming?
For light and mid-weight games the A16 is fine. Puzzle games, card games and most popular mobile titles run smoothly on the 90Hz screen. With heavy 3D games you have to dial the graphics settings back to keep things fluid; the Helio G99 was not built for that. If you game seriously, a model from the A5x series or higher is a better choice.
What is the difference between the Galaxy A16 and the Galaxy A17?
The A17 is the successor from September 2025 and has the same 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen at 90Hz. The main difference is in the camera: the A17 has optical image stabilisation on the main camera, the A16 does not. That shows in photos at dusk and in handheld video. Beyond that the A17 is slightly lighter and has tougher screen protection.
