Buying the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G: 120Hz and genuinely waterproof
The Galaxy A26 5G is the strongest of our six new A models and the only phone in this line-up with a 120Hz screen and an IP67 rating. The latter means it survives submersion to one metre — not splash resistance, but real waterproofing. Ours is brand new and sealed, with a 2-year warranty.
Screen and speed
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen has a Full HD+ resolution and refreshes 120 times a second. Next to a 90Hz phone that is immediately visible: scrolling, animations and games look noticeably smoother. The Exynos 1380 is the fastest chip in this group of six and has enough in reserve for meatier games and heavier apps. Front and back are protected with Gorilla Glass Victus+.
Cameras
The 50 megapixel main camera has optical image stabilisation. The ultra-wide is 8 megapixels, against 5 megapixels on the A16 and A17 — that shows in the detail when you want a landscape or a group in the frame. There is also a 2 megapixel macro camera, and a 13 megapixel camera on the front. Video records up to 4K at 30 frames per second, which is not a given in this class.
Battery, water resistance and updates
The 5,000 mAh battery charges at 25 watts over USB-C. Because of the 120Hz screen the A26 asks a little more of its battery than the other models here, but a day is no trouble. The IP67 rating is the real distinction: dust-tight and able to withstand submersion in fresh water to one metre for thirty minutes. The other models in this line-up have IP54 and are only splash resistant. Samsung promises six Android version upgrades and six years of security updates, through to March 2031. A headphone socket is missing; a microSD card is possible, in the slot of the second SIM.
Who is the A26 5G for?
Choose the A26 5G if you want the best the A-series offers in this price range: the smoothest screen, the fastest chip, the best ultra-wide camera and genuine waterproofing. If you want the same size and the same stabilised main camera for less money, the Galaxy A17 5G is the logical comparison.

Is the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G waterproof?
Yes, within the limits of IP67. That means completely dust-tight and able to withstand submersion in fresh water to a depth of one metre, for a maximum of thirty minutes. Rain, a spilled glass or a fall into the washbasin it will survive. Seawater, chlorinated water and water under pressure (think of a pressure washer, or diving) are not covered by it, and not by the warranty either. The other A models in our range have IP54 and are only splash resistant.
What do you notice from 120Hz on the Galaxy A26 5G?
The image is refreshed 120 times a second instead of 90. In practice you see it above all when scrolling through long lists, when opening and closing apps and in games: movement looks smoother and calmer on the eye. It is not a difference that makes your device faster, but it is one you feel with every action — and it is the clearest difference with the A16 and A17.
What is the difference between the Galaxy A26 5G and the Galaxy A17 5G?
Three things. The A26 has a 120Hz screen where the A17 5G has 90Hz. The A26 is IP67 certified and so genuinely waterproof, while the A17 5G with IP54 can only handle splashes. And the A26's ultra-wide camera is 8 megapixels against 5 megapixels on the A17 5G. On top of that the Exynos 1380 is faster than the Exynos 1330. Screen size, screen type, battery and the stabilised main camera are the same on both phones.
