The iPhone 16e launched in February 2025 as the cheaper entry to the 16 series. Same A18 chip, same 6.1-inch OLED display, same USB-C and Action button. Still, the difference from the iPhone 16 is bigger than the name suggests. Below are the points you notice daily, and our advice.
In short: the 16e lacks the ultra-wide camera, MagSafe, the Dynamic Island and the Camera Control button, and has a 60Hz display with a notch. Refurbished, the price gap with the regular 16 is often small; then the 16 is the better buy. If the 16e is clearly cheaper, it is a fine phone for people who shoot without wide-angle and have no MagSafe accessories.

What you notice from the differences
Camera. The biggest difference. The 16e has one camera; wide shots of a group at the table, a building or a landscape do not work without stepping back. Macro shots are missing too. The main camera itself is good and the 2x zoom is usable.
MagSafe. If you own a MagSafe charger, car mount or wallet, they will not snap onto the 16e. Wireless charging works, but slowly (7.5W) and without the click.
Dynamic Island and Camera Control. Comfort, not necessity. The 16e notch is the same as on the iPhone 14; after a day you stop seeing it.
Battery. Thanks to the efficient C1 modem the 16e lasts slightly longer than the 16 on mobile data. In practice both comfortably last a day.
What does it cost refurbished?
New, there was well over a hundred euros between them at launch. Refurbished, prices move closer, because the 16 has been on the market longer and is traded in more often. Who is the 16e right for?
- You mostly photograph people and things up close, not landscapes or groups.
- You have no MagSafe accessories and charge with a cable.
- You want a recent model with Apple Intelligence and long support at the lowest price.
Who is the 16 worth it for?
- Anyone coming from an iPhone 12, 13 or 14 who is used to two cameras: going back to one feels like a downgrade.
- MagSafe users.
- Anyone keeping the phone four years or more: the 16 has more GPU power and holds its value better.

Yes. Both phones have the A18 chip with 8 GB of memory and support Apple Intelligence.
Is the 16e display worse?
No. Same size, same OLED technology and 60Hz. The only difference is the notch instead of the Dynamic Island.
Does a 16 case fit the 16e?
No. The camera sits differently and the 16e has no Camera Control button; the cut-outs do not match.
