More choice than you might think
If you are looking for a refurbished phone, you have plenty of options. Apple, Samsung, Huawei — every brand has its strengths and weaknesses. But which one suits you? We line up the most important differences, based on our day-to-day experience in the shop.
iPhone: reliable and supported for years
Apple's iPhones are known for their long lifespan. On average, an iPhone receives five to six years of software updates. That means even an iPhone 12 from 2020 still runs the latest iOS version in 2025, complete with all security updates.
iPhones also hold their value well. If you want to trade yours in again in two years, you will still get a decent amount for it. The interface is simple, and if you already own an iPad, MacBook or Apple Watch, everything works together seamlessly.
Samsung: lots of choice and flexibility
Samsung offers phones in every price range. From the budget-friendly A series to the premium S series and the foldable Z Fold and Z Flip. Android also gives you more freedom to customise things than iOS does.
The downside with a refurbished Samsung: software support is shorter than with Apple. A Samsung from 2020 may no longer receive updates in 2025. That is something to keep in mind.
Huawei: beautiful hardware, but mind the software
Huawei makes gorgeous phones with excellent cameras. But due to trade restrictions, Huawei no longer has access to Google services on its newer models. That means no Google Play Store, no Gmail app, no Google Maps. For many people, that is a dealbreaker.
Older Huawei models from before 2020 do still have Google services and remain perfectly usable as refurbished phones.
Our advice
In our shop in Nijverdal, we see that most customers ultimately choose a refurbished iPhone. The combination of long-term updates, reliability and strong resale value makes it the best long-term buy for most people.
But it really depends on your personal preferences. Do you use a lot of Google services and want more freedom? Then Samsung can be a great choice. Are you mainly looking for a simple, reliable phone that lasts for years? Then we recommend an iPhone.
