iPhone VS Samsung: who wins?
Ask an iPhone owner to swap their phone for a Samsung and they'll look at you like you've lost your mind.
Ask an Android user and they'll laugh at the suggestion that an iPhone is the better phone.
There are clearly two camps — and you almost certainly belong to one of them. But where does the truth actually lie?
What are the real differences, and which of the two delivers the better phone?
Samsung is too complicated!
A common complaint from iPhone users about Samsung phones is that they're overly complicated.
iOS is indeed very straightforward and easy to get to grips with quickly. Once you're used to that, Android can feel complex by comparison.
Samsung offers far more customisation options, which means it can take a little longer to master the operating system.
An iPhone is so boring!
Because Apple manufactures both the hardware and the software, the two integrate seamlessly — resulting in a smooth, consistent user experience.
Apple is also the only one who can review apps in the App Store before they go live, which helps maintain a certain standard of quality.
But that control comes at a cost: you can't add widgets or customise your app icons, both of which are perfectly possible on a Samsung.
At least Samsung is personal!
Because Android offers more customisation options, you can truly make the phone your own.
Want different icons for your apps? A handy widget on your home screen? No problem — Android makes it all possible.
But an iPhone never breaks!
iPhone users tend to speak highly of the software's reliability. An iPhone rarely freezes or crashes unexpectedly.
Android devices are, admittedly, a somewhat easier target for malware.
This is partly because software updates aren't always rolled out to every device at the same time.
That's where Apple's tightly controlled ecosystem shows its strength once again.
iPhones are so much more expensive!
Samsung caters to a wider range of budgets. Their entry-level models come in at a lower price point,
though the quality reflects that — and those devices tend not to last as long.
Choose an iPhone and you can generally count on it serving you well for several years.
If you go for one of Samsung's premium models, the price and quality gap between the two brands narrows considerably.
But isn't Samsung's quality lower?
As mentioned above, that's certainly true of the more affordable models.
These are still made from plastic — something that applied to all Samsung models up until 2015.
That changed with the arrival of the S6, which, like the iPhone, is built from premium materials.
Samsung even pulled ahead for a time when it came to display quality.
Their (Am)OLED screens delivered razor-sharp visuals that iPhone simply couldn't match at the time.
Now that the iPhone X features the same technology, that advantage has disappeared too —
especially when you consider that those very screens are produced and supplied by Samsung.
So what's it going to be? Team Samsung or Team iPhone?
Price, quality, and flexibility. The gap between the two has never been smaller. So what really drives the decision? Experience!
People who use Apple at home or at work tend to choose it for their phone too.
And the same goes for Android users. A positive experience with a product keeps you loyal to a brand.

So don't bother trying to convince your iPhone-using neighbour to switch to Samsung.
The chances of that working are about as slim as you trading in your Samsung for an iPhone...
