Why does your iPhone battery drain faster?
As your iPhone gets older, its battery capacity decreases. That is normal, but there are plenty of ways to extend the lifespan and get the most out of your battery.
1. Switch off unnecessary location services
Many apps use your location in the background, which costs a lot of energy. Go to Settings → Privacy → Location Services and set apps to "While Using" or turn them off entirely.
2. Use automatic brightness
The screen is the biggest power consumer on your iPhone. Turn on automatic brightness via Settings → Display. Lower the brightness manually when you are indoors.
3. Activate Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode limits background activity and reduces visual effects. You can enable it via Settings → Battery or from the Control Centre.
4. Avoid extreme temperatures
Lithium-ion batteries perform poorly in extreme heat or cold. Do not leave your iPhone in the sun and avoid using it in below-freezing temperatures.
5. Charge smartly
Ideally, charge your iPhone between 20% and 80%. Fully discharging it or constantly keeping it at 100% shortens the battery's lifespan. Preferably use the supplied charger or a certified one.
6. Update your software
Apple optimises power consumption in its software updates. Make sure you always have the latest iOS version installed.
